Hi everyone! I’m Pamela Ciacia, an environmental biotechnologist working in remediation.

I studied Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology in Rome, where I grew passionate for remediation and bioremediation. I pursued such a passion through my thesis, where I treated groundwater containing a mixture of toluene and chloroform using a prototype called "bioelectric well".

I was so fascinated by the bioelectrochemical system and the microorganisms working for me in the reactor!

After graduating, I applied for an Erasmus traineeship in Denmark to learn more about microorganisms and experience working in an environmental microbiology lab. I learned and had so much fun there!

While in Denmark, I also discovered the Trollmap. If you have been to Copenhagen and visited Christiania, you must have seen the Troll holding a Lotus flower in its hands. And if you are a curious person, you will have also discovered that the author of that Troll has created many more, not only in Denmark but in many other countries around the world!

Being a curious person myself, I started searching for the other Trolls. And I discovered that one was not far from the Danish city where I was living at the time. So, I convinced my friends to go look for it. The second Troll was so well hidden in the woods that my friends started doubting that it existed at all. But, after a while, I spotted an area where the weeds were shorter: I went there, and I found it!

This experience was special to me because Thomas Dambo, the activist who created the Trolls, is on a mission to make artworks from waste materials and plans to build a thousand giant statues. I am so fascinated by this that I want to find as many Trolls as I can, while on my trips and experiences. I hope to see them all!

I wanted to share this experience because it’s the same kind of engagement that I will have in my new role as an Innovation coordinator. Built on a lot of curiosity and determination.

Today, I am an environmental technical consultant and I desire to work in the bioremediation and sustainability field.

I hope to see you in our Technical and Innovation group, for a lot of other stories from the members and to discover our new projects’ activities.

Best regards,

Pamela
